Todd Julian has been a home security professional for over 15 years. From day one it has been his passion, and quality work is always at the top of his list. Consultations, evaluations, sales, and installations are still a six day per week job. During this time, he has seen more than a few installations that are sub par in both design and installation. It was after replacing and repairing a particularly bad install done by another company that this book was conceived and written, from hands-on experience instead of remote research. Mr. Julian hopes this book will assist the consumer in avoiding the pitfalls of the security industry by sharing this experience.
“There are good salespeople, and there are good security consultants. They are technically the same. So are ping pong and bowling balls."
“Whatever you do, and however you do it – get smoke detectors”
“A burglar likes the quiet, and when that quiet is shattered, suddenly and quite loudly, he just might forget why he is there, and a quick exit rises to the top of his to-do list fairly quickly.”
“…you can’t predict stupidity.”
"I learned more about my current home security system from this book than I have learned in the two years I’ve operated it! Plus, we were very entertained."

"We just had a security system salesman out to our house. Saw this book while researching later that night, ordered it, and read the whole thing at one sitting, all the while looking at each other and shaking our heads. If we could do it over again, we would toss our sales guy to the sidewalk. We will buy a security system, and we feel completely prepared for the next salesperson. Thanks Todd!"

"How can you make this stuff so entertaining? This was like being in class with my favorite teacher. Straight A’s without trying!"

"I’ve never been one of those radical survivalist types, turning my home into a fortress to protect what’s mine. But I am a realist, and after a rash of break-ins in my very own neighborhood, I reconsidered. A home security consultant left me confused and scared—could I afford everything he said I needed to be safe? I needed to know more about all this stuff, and started doing my homework. I found only one source that didn’t try to sell me something, but what a resource it is! 'Deter and Minimize' clearly and matter-of-factly laid out the facts about security systems. Reading this ebook was like talking to my dad—he would lay out the facts, both pro and con, then trust me to make my own decisions. My next consultation was completely different—I was working from a basis of knowledge rather than fear. I now have a security system that is just right for me; I now feel safe without feeling paranoid. And, by the way, I bought a smoke alarm before I even finished reading the ebook!"

"I never really seriously considered having a security system installed. A friend who just had one installed recommended this site. I read the sample chapter and decided to order the whole thing. Wow! I have two company reps coming out this week."

"When I was handed 'Deter and Minimize,' a multitude of reasons not to read it came to mind. Number one being that I never, and I mean never…ever read the how to things that go with stuff, DVD players, cell phones, answering machines. My digital camera still sports a date sometime back in 2007. And what could I possible learn from this book? I already have an alarm system, I know how they work, or so I thought.
By page five I was interested, and after the scenarios I was wondering…maybe I don’t know EVERYTHING about home security. Needless to say I couldn’t put the darn thing down. Deter and Minimize is written in a laid back easy read format, not just a bunch of boring facts and statistic’s.
Mr. Julian’s humor and real life situations kept my interest all the way through to the end. Who would have thought a book on home security could make you laugh? His writing reminded me of the columnist Lewis Grizzard. Not everyone can take something as serious as keeping children safe and be entertaining.
I promise when you finish this book you’ll know exactly what you need to keep your home and family protected…truly Deter and Minimize is a must read if you are planning on purchasing a home security system."

"My security company didn’t tell me half of what 'Deter and Minimize' did. I now look at my keypad in a completely different way. Thanks, Todd!"

"There are so many options out there for home security and all kinds of extras. Todd's book, 'Deter and Minimize,' really helped me decide what was best for protecting my family. It saved me a lot of money, too."

"My wife and I have had a home security system for years and I learned so much more from reading 'Deter and Minimize' than was explained to me by the security system salesman who came to our house. Now I feel I am much better equipped to make decisions that will protect my family. There just isn't any better information out there that you can trust to be completely unbiased. If you want the facts, then read this book."
